GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN.
HISTORY RE-ENACTED. The resemblance between Lleyn Peninsula, the north-west limb of Carnarvonshire, and Gallipoli was exploited bv the Manchester Territorials, who staged a miniature reproduction and modernisation of the Dardanelles campaign. It was an experiment m the location and evacuation of the “wounded” by aeroplanes, autogiros and radio-vans. The autogiros, operating over the moorland slopes of the peninsula, indicated to the stretcher-bearers where the “wounded” were lying, me neighbourhood includes Hellsmouth, a realistic Welsh counterpart of Suvla B *Th e experiment was the idea of Colonel J. F. O’Grady, who served on Gallipoli. He recently revisited the Dardanelles, which suggested .the reenactment of history at Lleyn Peninsula. Colonel O’Grady, -however, doubted the effectiveness of autogiros m locating the wounded, owing to their vulnerability to enemy fire.
