STRUCK BY VAN.
ONEHUNGA COUPLE. CAMBRIDGE, June 24. The police are endeavouring to trace a motor van and driver which was concerned in an accident on Saturday evening when a pedestrian, Mr Ernest Tapp, single, aged 45, of Church Street, Onehunga, was knocked down by a motor van on the Hamilton Road, Cambridge. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Mr Tapp was admitted to the Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, in an unconscious condition, suffering from a fracture of. the skull. Mr Tapp was walking along the Hamilton Road, near the Cambridge water tower, in company with Miss Lvdia Stokes, also of Onehunga. when the motor van approached from behind and knocked them both down. Miss Stokes escaped with bruised and minor cuts, but Mr Tapp was_ carried along by the van for about 27yds., and was unconscious when picked up. Miss Stokes and Mr Tapp had attended tlie wedding of a relative in Hamilton during the afternoon, and they went to Cambridge m the evening to visit friends. When the accident occurred 'the# were walking alontr the Hamilton- Road towards Hamilton with the intention of visiting friends. The van was travelling in the same direction.
