“MAGNIFICENT.”
MR LY&NS AND GIANT LINER. “T hope the Queen Alary will he sent on a world tour to enable Australia to offer her congratulations on a great British achievement,” said Mr J. A. Lyons, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, after inspecting the mammoth liner. Air Lyons was taken across the Clyde in a launch, three of which could steam abreast down the Queen Mary’s funnel, and as he looked up at the liner’s towering side, he murmured “Magnificent.” He made a tour of the vessel to the accompaniment of the noise made by 15.000 workmen, and walked half a mile round the decks, only fatigue preventing his descending the series of ladders to the engine-room, or ascending to the bridge, that towers 150 feet above the level of the Clyde. “It is stupendous,” he said, “and increases our pride in British workmanship. The Normandie has set tbe Queen Alary a great task, but I feel that Britain will not be let down in regaining for tbe Empire the supremacy of the Atlantic.”
