KAIRANGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KAIRANGA, June 4. On Friday evening the fortnightly cuclirc tournament, held in the hall, attracted a largo number of players. the winners were Mrs llalL and Miss Doreen (consolation) in the ladies’ seeticii and Mr R. Kirkland and Bcvan llall (consolation) in tho men’s. Competitions were won by Mary Collis and Mr h. Cummins Supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Mr E. H. Lange, chief agricultural instructor for tho Wanganui. Education Board, visited the school on Friday morning to weigh tho children’s mangel plots. Owing to the dry weather only throe plots out, of fourteen had reached maturity. The results woro: Ama Cooper, 140 tons; Eric Cooper, 120 tons; and Colin Hyde, 102 tons to the acre. Mr Lango remarked that it was the first time in 15 years that all tho plots weighed at, one school averaged over 100 tons per acre. Mrs J. Pratt and Miss Nola Pratt are spending a holiday at Taihape. Mr lan Davcy is on holiday at To Aroiia, Miss Thomas, who has been the guest of Mrs H. Turner, returned to her home at Ashburton during tlio week-end. Mrs Ball, of Masterton, is the guest of Mrs H. Turner. Prior to tlic marriage of Miss C. Ivcinpthornc and Mr C. Prouse, which took place last week, a gift evening was held by Mr and Mrs H. Green, at “Oakvicw” with a number of friends of the young couple. The time was spent in cards, competitions and musical items. The winners of the euchre tournament, were Miss D. Capp and Mr C. Prouse. A competition was won by Miss Z. Loamy and Mr Howard Rowland. After supper, Mr Green, who spoke of Miss Kempthorno’s long friendship with his family and her willingness in helping good causes at all times, asked her to accept the gifts with every wish for future happiness. After the parcels had been opened Mr Prouse. on behalf of Miss Kempt borne, thanked all for their presents, also Mr and Mrs Green for their kindness, which was followed by the singing of musical honours.
