FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
OROUA LODGE OF DRUIDS. At the fortnightly meeting of the Oroua Lodge of Druids, held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba Street, on Tuesday evening, A.D. Bro. R. Paris presided over a good attendance. The A.D., on behalf of the lodge, welcomed P.A. Bro. Meßrearty, of Bud of Hope Lodge, Rangiora, and P.A. Sis. Osman, of Lind Lodge, and also the A.D. and officers of Acorn Lodge, who attended for the purpose of contesting against the Oroua officers the Mathie-Brmks ritual shield. An invitation to attend Acorn Lodge on Friday evening was received, and it was decided to pay an official visit. P.A. Bro. Meßrearty returned thanks for the welcome extended to him and extended lgratevnal greetings from Bud of Hope Lodgo. A.D. Bro. Ayres returned thanks on behalf of Acorn Lodge. Tlie lodge adjourned for a short period to allow the judges to prepare for the ritual contest. The judges were P.D.P.’s Bro. Hughes and Pasco© P.A. Sis. Osman and Bro. Davidson. Each set of officers initiated a candidate into the order and the standard of work displayed by both teams was of a high order. At the conclusion of the contest the judges gave their decision to Oroua, the points being 379£ against 3624. Bro. Davidson gave an excellent critique of the elocutionary capability of the various officers and offered suggestions as to how faults could he altered. A vote of thanks to the judges was carried by acclamation. P.A. Bro. Lowndes, R.A.D., on behalf of the Royal Arch Chapter, presented the shield to the A.D. of Oroua and congratulated both teams on the excellent performances given. Bro.
