LINTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, March 14. The monthly meeting of tho Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs T. Lynch presided over an excellent attendance of members. Miss E. Young (secretary) read the annual report as follows: —The year 1934-35 has been a very happy one. Tho membership now stands at .45. The meetings have been well attended. Delegates were sent to the half-yearly council meetings held at l’almersto i North. We have had various demonstrations, a travel talk, and an address on institute matters. The monthly competitions have hen keenly contested, and some excellent work has been brought forward. The points prize for the year resulted: —Miss E. Y’oiuig 1, Mrs L. Craw 2, Mrs A. Currin 3. Our social events included a concert and dance to celebrate our third birthday, a flower show, a concert and dance in conjunction with the Farmers’ Union, a social evening, a show of home industries and needlework, a picnic combined with the Farmers’ Union and local school at the Waitarere beach and a concert and dance combined with the Opiki Women’s Institute held at Opiki. Wo entered two courts at the A. and I’. Show in the Women’s Institute section. The drama circle entered a team in the drama festival held in Palmerston North, and although not being successful in winning the cup, as in the two previous years, we | congratulate them on being placed second, only one mark behind tho winning team. The group rally was held in Linton last July, when ten institutes were represented and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent, the Linton members being hostesses. Mrs Kaye, a member of the committee, found I it nocensary to resign on account of ill- | health, and two new members, Mesdames j Gooch and Sheridan, were elected to the j committee during the year. Tho commit- j teo would like to thank all who have assisted throughout the year in making the meetings a success, also those who have helped in social functions, especially those who have always been willing to help with the music. Mrs A. Currin (treasurer) rend tho balance-sheet, showing a very creditable balance. Afternoon tea _ was then served by members of the committee. Hie election of the now committee then took placo, the scrutineers being Mesdames 1). Currin and Nash. The results were as fol- j low:—Mrs T. Lynch, president (reelected);; Mrs Irvine, vice-president (re-elected); j Mins E. Young, secretary and treasurer, i The old committee were re-elected—Mrs- \ dames A. Cun in, C. Terry, J. Lynch, R. j Coker, Moycs, Gooch, and Sheridan—who thanked the members for returning them to office. During the afternoon Mrs A. Currin gave a short address on tho group rally held recently at Koputaroa. Mrs Irvine also spoke on the entertainment held j at Opiki last week. Tho competition was j tho host three dahlia blooms which brought j forward quite a number of entries. The j winners were Mrs Hoard 1, Mrs Romlev 2, Miss E. Currin 3. The judges were ! Mesdames J. Batchelar and Irvine. The singing of the National Anthem brought the afternoon to a close. The committee then adjourned for a short meeting. Miss Snelling, the guest of Mrs Romlcy, was a visitor to the institute. Misses D. and W. Adams returned home on Wednesday after a holiday spent in the South Island. Mrs Lukashefski has been visiting friends in Linton during the last week and was tho guest of Mr and Mrs Heard. Friends of Mr F. Moody will j bo pleased to hear ho is progressing satis- , factorilv after his operation in a private hospital in Palmerston North.
