TERRACE END CLUB. CLOSING OF SEASON. The Terrace End Amateur Swimming Club officially brought its season to a close on Tuesday evening, when the final chib carnival was held. Although the weather conditions left something to be desired, there was a fair sprinkling of spectators and some quite good swimming was witnessed, the diving in the men’s section being of a particularly high order. At the conclusion of the events. Mr R. Donald, vice-pre-sident, presented the trophies won during the season and also those for the club championships. held during the evening. The season’s trophies were won as follow :—Girls’ Herbert Smith Cup (girls under 15),. points for 25yds, 50 yds, 75yds, and 100yds free-style, 25 yds backstroke and 25yds breaststroke: Jean Smith, 18 points, 1; Noelle Hankins. 13 points, 2; Joyce Baigent, 12 points, 3. Boys’ Herbert Smith Cup (boys under 15), series as above: Colin Hardie and Ray Hopewell (14 points), equal, 1: Biii Wilson, 12 points, 2. Club cup (ladies), series as above: Miss D. Gibbs, 16 points, 1 ; Miss S. Heath, 15 points, 2. Club cup (men), 50yds, 75yds, 100yds, and 150yds freestyle, 25yds back-stroke, and 50yds breaststroke: D. Gilchrist, 18 points, 1; C. Baigent, 14 points, 2; O. Hills, 12 points, 3. “Plodders” prizes (presented by Mr J. M. Arthur, formerly bath’s custodian) : Boys, Leslie Chapman; girls, Noelle Hankins. The trophies for championship events were presented by the club’s patron, Mr W. B. Tennent. Hills) 1, C. Hardie’s team 2, O. Baigent’s team 3. WEST END CLUB. CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED. On Tuesday night the West End Swimming. Club brought to a close a very successful season, when the club championships were competed for and some interesting swimming was witnessed. The members deserve great credit for the enthusiastic manner in which they have supported the club during the past season, and for the keen interest displayed in club competitions and outside carnivals. This young club, which has been in existence for only two years, has some very promising swimmers, who will no doubt prove their worth in the near future. During the season a series of club handicap races for trophies were conducted and these were keenly contested. The winners of Tuesday night’s events are as follow :—Junior championship, free-style 50yds: F. Lindsay 1, 1. Little 2. Junior championship, free-style 100yds: N. McLean 1, P. Lindsay 2. Junior championship breaststroke,' 50yds: Betty Sehwabe 1. F. Lindsay- 2~. Senior championship, freestyle 50yds: F. King 1, S. Dawick 2. Senior championship, free-style 100yds: S. Dawick 1, S. Johnston 2. Senior championship, breaststroke 100yds: 1. Dustin 1, S. Dawick 2. The winners of the trophies for the total number of points gained during the season are as follow:—A grade: A.
