SALE AT TIMARU. A GOOD CLEARANCE. Per Press Association. TIMARU. March 13. Prices at the second wool sale of the season in South Canterbury to-day wore firm on curront rates. A full bench of buyers operated on a catalogue of 22,158 bales. Station clip/s opened lip well, hut those from the plains and foothills showed discoloration owing to the adverse weather conditions. Growers met tho market fairly well, the ultimate percentage of passings being comparatively small. Tho chief operators were Bradford and the Continent, with Japan picking up suitable lots. German representatives operated very sparingly. Keen interest was displayed in Merino wools, some of which were the best seen in the district for a long time, and they topped tho market at 13Jcl a pound; hulfbrods reached 12 Ad, and' threequnrtorbreds 9d. The official range of prices is as follows :

The Wellington Wool Brokers’ Association advise that, (lie nex't wool sale, which was set down for Wednesday, March 20, has been postponed for a day, and will open in tho Town Hall at 9 if. in. on Thursday, March 21. Levin and Co., Ltd.—Auctions opetied at a decline on last sales’ closing rates; Tho selection of wool offered was only fair. Good competition prevailed at (lie lower rates, but was confined almost on- 1 tirely to tho Home trade. Continental buyers arc not. operating. As at present arranged, the sales will close on March 29. Compared with the closing rates of last sale, wo quote:—Greasy Merino, best, ; id per lb lower; average, id per lb lower;, fine halfbred, 50-56's. id to 2d per lb lowei ; extra fine crossbreds, 48-50‘s, id to 2d per lb lower; lino, 46-48’s, id per lb lower; medium, 44-46’s, Rl to id per lb lower; coarse, 40-44’s, 'id per lb lower; low, 36-40’s, id per lb lower; fine slipes, id to |d per lb lower; medium and coarse, id per lb lower. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd. —An average attendance of buyers, among whom tho Bradford representatives were the chief operators. There was an average selection of wool offering and the market was irregular. We quote the following average realisations: Greasy haifbrcci, 50-56's, yielding 68 per cent., 841!; greasy thrccc|uarterbrecl, 48-50’s, yielding 74 per cent., 7id; greasy fine crossbred, 46-48’s, ] yielding 75 per cent., 6d ; greasy medium crossbred, 44-46’s, yielding 75 per cent., s|d; crossbred lambs, 46-50’s, yielding 74 per cent., 8d: scoured wool prices, 5 per cent, lower; slipc wool, 71 per cent, lower; Australian Merino, 5 per cent, lower. French operators were very quiet, but Germany competed for spinners’ 52’s and Merino wool. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.—A good attendance, competition by Home buyers being fairly active. As compared with last sale's closing rates, prices are lower Id per lb for crossbred slipc, medium crossbred and greasy Merino; prices are lower par to Id per lb for coarse greasy crossbred; prices are lower Id to Id per lb for fine crossbred; and Id to lid per lb lower for scoured Merino. TIIO opening catalogues were not representative. New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd.; —Good attendance and competition. Prices, compared .with close 1 of last series: Merinos, greasy par to 5 t per cent.; scoured none; crossbreds, greasy c fine 71 per edit.; medium, 5 per cent, to 1 71 per cent.; greasy coarse, par to 5 per cent.; scourcds, slipes, 5 per cent, to 10 1 per cent., all clown. SYDNEY WOOL PRICES FIRM. SYDNEY, March 13. At ihc wool sales to-day, 12,292 bales were offered, 11,163 being sold at auction , and also 1573 privately. Bidding was - 1 spirited from Yorkshire and Japan, and there was good support from tho Continent. Prices were very firm. Greasy Me- , rino sold to 17jd.
