EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MARCH 11, 1905.
A Capetown message said the last Cape rebel prisoner remaining in prison had been reloaded. The Dannevirke Cup at the Dannevirke Racing Club’s annual meeting was won by Gold Dust. Tho attendanco was a record and tho totalisator handled £3OOO more than at the previous meeting. Tho Autumn Handicap of 130 sovs., on the second day, was won by Mystification. The Russians were reported to be beaten on all sides and retreating before the Japanese whose infantry were pressing them closely. Rugby players in Palmerston North were considering the commencement of the new season and High School Old Boys and Y.-M.C.A. Clubs were to engago in a practice game. Several of tho clubs had he'd their annual meetings. The Pohangina Timber Company’s null at the reserve was practically cut out. It was stated that the company had two other offers of bush under consideration.
