TIAKITAHUNA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIAKITAHUNA. March 7. A successful garden party, orgatibod by the Women’s Institute in aid of the hall and institute funds, was held in the grounds cf tho beautiful homo of Mr J. Callcson, Knrcrc. Perfect weather conditions enabled a large crowd to be present and many joined in the amusing competitions which wero held. Stall holders were as follow; —Produce stall, Mcsdames Davies, Igglesdcn, and Morley; ice-cream, soft drinks and sweets, Misses li. AlcEwen J. Morley and M. Rowland; bran tub,. Mcsdames F. and W. McEwen; nail-driving, Mr N. P. Nielsen; dart beard, Mr W. Rowland; skittles and chain stopping, Mr D. Rowland. Afternoon tea was in tho charge of Mcsdames Nielson, Richardson and Croucher and helpers. A social and dance was held in the evening, when again a largo crowd was in attendance. Items wero kindly rendered by the following: — Miss V. Corke, songs; Mr Bindon, songs; Mr D. Ward, humorous sketches; Mrs Fell, songs; Mr Parsons, violin solos; and Mill. McEwen, songs. Tho accompanists wero Miss Corke and Mrs Edwards. Competitions which wero also held in tho afternoon wero drawn. Thanks are due to tho city firms who kindly donated to the garden party. Novelty dances were won by tho following: Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss L. Hearsey and 'Mr 'Gosling: lucky spot waltzes, Miss J. Ferguson and Mr W. Weddell and Mr and Mrs M. Voss. Music for tho dancing was supplied by an orchestra. In thanking the instituto for their help, Mr D. Rowland, chairman of tho Ifall Committee, congratulated the members on tho work they had done in raising funds. Ho also took the opportunity to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs M. Voss, who are leaving shortly for a tour of tho Old Country. Mr Richardson also spoke on behalf of tho people cf the district. Musical honours wero sung and a button-hole and posy wore presented to Mr and Mrs Ycss by Valerie and Miriam Rowland. Mr Richardson also welcomed Mr and Mrs Rohinsoh and family, who have just come to live in the district, Mr Robinson bging tho schoolmaster; he hoped they would bo staying in the district for a long time. In rcplv, Mr Robinson thanked tho people for their hospitality and hoped ho would be able to keep up tho good work which had been carried out by his predecessor, Mr M. C. Amadio. It would not be through tho lack of hard work if ho failed to do so.
