REMARKABLE SURGERY.
OPERATION IN AMERICA. FALL RIVER (Massachusetts), March 4. What is considered to be one of the most remarkable operations performed in the United states occurtcd today, when, in a clinical exploration, a well-known surgeon and expert in hernia, Dr. Philemon Trnesdale, put into normal position an inverted stomach and other misplaced organs of a 10-year old child, Alyce Ja.ne MeHenrv. The operation was _ watched by a large group of observing physicians. Dr. Truesdale, when the situation became apparent in all its details on the operating table, found it necessary to take the stomach (which was upsidedown and up under the girl’s shoulder in the left chest cavity) with all but two feet of her intestines, and her spleen and her appendix, and place them in normal position. Alyce s case, which attracted national attention, is considered grave, and although she stood the two hours’ ordeal well, the phvsician declined prognosis. “I don’t want anybody to say this operation was a success, said Br Truesdale, “but I don t want anyon to say it was tlie opposite.
