MISHAP ON BAR

SHIP AT GItEYMOUTH

Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, March 4

When crossing the Greymouth bar at 8.45 this morning, the steamer Mernoo (1405 tons) took a slight sheer and grazed the south breakwater. Captain F. W. Cox, the harbourmaster, was-in command at the time. The vessel proceeded to the wharf where a preliminary inspection disclosed damage to the tips of three blades of the propeller. The Mernoo is now being loaded forward with timber to lift the propeller to enable an examination to be made. She was drawing Bft 6ins forward and 12ft lin ait on arrival. There was a considerable swell on the bar this morning, with an inclination for it to “make.”
