PLUNKET SOCIETY

PUBLIC APPEAL. Evidence of the high regard in which the Plunket Society is held in Pnlmerston North ivas provided on Saturday when the local branch held a street collection to raise funds to further the excellent work carried on in this centre. A large band of sellers were engaged throughout the business area in the morning disposing of badges and the indications at 1 o’clock were that the revenue from that source would approach £SO. The ladies were introduced in many cases in their canvass by business men of the city, and there was every cause on the part of the sellers for their feeling gratified at the result of their efforts.

Donajkms fpr a stall held in the Square came forward well, and good business resulted. In the afternoon a children’s party was held in the Empire Hail and afternoon tea served there for the mothers who had brought their children for the entertainment. At the Plunket rooms in King Street matters pertaining to general organisation were dealt with by Mrs M. Aitcliison, Miss A. Kearns, Mr 0. Wood and Colonel J. H. Whyte. Morning tea was provided by Mrs L. H. Colhnson and Miss I. Lockwood for th© sellers of badges at the rooms, and was much appreciated. At tho

stall, Mesdames A. Coombs, H. B. Free, J. H. Whyte, G. S. Percn and K: Garland and Miss M. Coombs proved keen saleswomen, and afternoon tea arrangements at the children’s party wore in the, of Mesdames 13. P. Mitchell, A. A. Langley, A. Crigor, J. Murray, C. A. Small, and F. Fairbrother, and an ice-cream stall was under the management of Mesdames J. Hope Johnston and K. Garland. The children’s amusements were directed by Misses TVapp.
