SPORTS GATHERING

BULLS-OIIAKEA CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, March 3. „ The annual sports mooting of iho Built; Ohakoa Club was hold on Bulls Domain cm Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. Cyclists and runners were present from Palmerston North, Feilding, Marton. Wanganui and other centres. and splendid sport was provided. Messrs lan Ross and Burgeoisc, of the executive of the Wanganui Centre, wero present, and lent valuable asistanco, while the lion, secretary (Mr C. B. Anderson) and Mr T. G. Graham (late secretary) had everything in smooth running order. There wero several spills in cycle events, but tho riders escaped injury. A brass band and a merry-go-round enlivened proceedings, while the camp site offered shado for picnic parties. The points prizes wero won by W. Pidwoll ( cycling) and R. Whale (running), and tho Killeymoon Cup by the local runor, G. Bromley, who won tho mile running raco in fine style. Ron. Ellery, another local cyclist, won tho three miles raco. Tho champion, J. Mr Linklater express' pleasure at being able to attend such a fine sports “gathering. He congratulated Mr Vile, president of the Sports Club, on the smooth running of the programme, which was a credit to the committee. Ihe Bulls grounds, ho said, wore a credit to the district. Mr Linklator touched briefly on tho benefit of athletics in making young peoplo more healthy and building up fine types of women and men. In Buds the facilities for sport were unequal,od. Ho congratulated the head teacher of the Kopane School and the pupils on winning the shield. Tho children, ho added were mostly sons and daughters of returned soldiers, and they were following in their fathers’ footsteps. Tho losers he said in conclusion, should not bo downhearted; all had done their best, and they would have better luck on some future occasion On his call tho Marton and Bulls children vave cheers for Kopane. Tho shield was handed to Thomson and A. Nix, members of tho winning team, and cheers were given for Mr Linklater and for Mr- Vde.
