PAHiATUA. Feb. 14. Some time ago the question was brought up at the Palhutua Borough Council about visiting auctioneers selling goods in the town. T.lio works committee went into the matter and as a result the following remit has been sent to the Municipal Association: — “That the Government be requested to pass legislation to enable borough councils to make a by-law to provide that auctioneers soiling goods (usually sold iu retail shops) in a borough other than that in which they have taken out ail auctioneer’s license, be made subject to the payment of an itinerant trailer’s license fee notwithstanding that they hold an auctioneer’s license.” While working on the Makuri Gorge widening contract yesterday Mr J. Ryan was excavating on tiie face of a bluff, with a safety rope about his waist, when he slipped and fell 14 feet before the rope blight him up with a jerk, bruising his body severely. Ho had to come to I’ahiatua for medical attention. The monthly meeting of tbo Methodist Ladies’ Guild was hold recently when Mrs K. M. Roberts presided. It was decided to hold tho annual thanksgiving sale of work towards tho end of March. After the Benediction had been pronounced afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Roberts and Ogg. Major-General S. It. Davidson and Mrs Davidson, of England, arc staying with Mr and Mrs Sterling Buckley, Edward Street. General Davidson saw service in Franco and Mesopotamia throughout the war. Constable Morley, I accompanied by Mrs Morley and their daughter, have returned to Auckland after spending an extended holiday j with Airs E. \V. Long, Mangahao. Mr | IT. Voule. Eketahuna, had tho misfor- i tune at tho Pongarua sale to strain < the muscles of a iog severely. He lias ! practically been confined to his homo since then.
