DRUIDS’ PICNIC.
COMBINED GATHERING. The Druids of Palmerston North held their second annual picnic amidst the pleasant surroundings of the Awapuni racecourse on Sunday. A large number of Druids and their friends attended from Pahiatua, Levin and other places. The races resulted as follow:—Girls, o years and under: Jean Medway, 1; Lyal Taylor, 2; June Oke, 3. Boys: Bob Ford, 1 ; Len Pyre, 2. Girls, 6 to 8 years: Betty Ford, 1; Noelino Pyre, 2. Boys: Sydney Rice, 1; Bob Read, 2. Girls’ three-legged race, 16 and under: Misses F. and J. Stevens, 1; Misses M. and N. Ford, 2. Wheelbarrow race, under 9 (mixed) : Sydney Rice and Marjory Ford, 1; Edward Taylor and Lilia Ure, 2. Over 9 years: Daphne Oke and Eunice Oke, 1; Norine Siddells and Norma Packer, 2. Single ladies’ race: Miss J. Kaye, 1; Miss M. Kayo, 2. Children’s under 3 years: June Franklin, 1; Bobby lire, 2. Round the course handicap: Daphne Oke, 1 ; Marjorie Ford and F. Sivert tied for 2. Tug-of-war : Oroua Lodge beat Acorn Lodge by two straight i>ulls. Tug of-war. (ladies’ teams): Oroua ladies beat Acorn by two straight pulls. Greasy pole : Oroua Lodge beat Acorn Lodge, 4 to 1. Men’s relay : Oroua Lodge, 1; Acorn Lodge, 2; Pioneer Lodge, 3. Ladies’ relay: Oroua Lodge, 1 ; Acorn Lodge, 2 ; Piorn eer Lo-dge, 3. Teams’ 100 yards sprint: Pioneer Lodge of Juveniles, 1,2 and 3. Teams’ cigarette race: Oroua Lodge, 1 and 2; Pioneer, 3. Cigarette race: Rodgers and Mrs Rodgers, 1 ; Peterana and Mrs Peterana 2. Boys, under 12 years: Alec Pagan 1, Eweii Ratcliffe, 2; Jack Hill, 3. Oroua Lodge won the gold cup for annual competition. The points are as follow: Oroua Lodge, 33; Pioneer Lodge, 12; Acorn Lodge, 6. J.P.G. President Bro. F. Jackson presented the cup to A.D. Bro. Paris. The president briefly addressed the gathering on the aims and objects of Druid,sm and thanked the large gathering for their attendance. The committee responsible for the success of the picnic comprised the sitting officers of Oroua and Acorn Lodges. Every child received a balloon and an apple, and all were thrilled with the lollie and plum scrambles.
