IRRIGATION IN THE SOUTH

STATEMENT BY MINISTER. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. IG. From.a statement made in an interview by the Minister for Public Works (Hon. J. Bitchener), it appears that it will he many months before any definite decision is made about an extensive irrigation scheme for South Canterbury. For some time Public Works Department engineers and experts have been investigating the possibilities of a very big scheme for the Levels County. The project has been examined in the greatest detail and reported on in practically every aspect, and in well-informed quarters it was expected that it would not be long before a definite decision was made. This, however, is not likely to ho the case.
