COLYTON-KIMBOLTON ROAD.
SEALING PROPOSAL. That no sealing should be done on the road from Menzies’s bridge to Kimbolton Roa.d until an application had been made to the Main Highways Board to take the length over was a suggestion made by Cr. W. Greenhow at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council at Feilding. He said the road carried a great deal of traffic from the metal crusher to the main highways. The engineer (Mr R. L. Harding) said a good deal of work had already been done in order to have the road sealed. If the road was not sealed that work would have to be done again in order to prepare the road for sealing at a later date. The chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) explained that the Highways Board would not consider anv applications for the declaration of new highways before the usual time. In a general discussion it was decided to write to the Highways Board pointing out that the road was carrying abnormal traffic and asking for a contribution toward the cost of the sealing, which is to be proceeded with. THE HALCOMBE ROAD. Drawing the attention of the engineer to the state of the Halcombe Road, Ci' R. McDonald said the wear on the road had been very severe indeed. Work with the grader seemed to be of little use and somthing permanent would have to be done soon. About a quarter of a mile above the Halcombe post office the road had worn down until the remains of a matai stump were showing. The corrugations were very bad and were very difficult to correct. The matter Ttas referred to the engineer for his attention.
