STUD SHEEP SALE.

DEMAND FOR GOOD CLASS EVIDENT. OFFERINGS AT FEILDING. Bidding was keen for sheep showing promise of being excellent sires at the opening of the seventh annual Manawatu and West Coast stud sheep sale at Feilding to-day, while there was a marked difference between the demand for first-class animals and those which did not fall into that category. The bidding showed that the offerings, which were all Southdown rams in the early part of the sale, were required for stud flock improvement purposes and were not sought at appreciable prices for ordinary flocks. In the first run, which is not necessarily composed of the cream of the offerings but is composed of those entries which are placed in that section by ballot, a large number of the sheep under the auctioneer’s hammer were passed as the bidding failed to reach the owners’ reserves. In the first and second runs in the Southdown ram section nine of of the 40 offerings were eold. The sales showed that rams from the old-established flocks were sought. The sale in the Southdown section was described by agents as being on the “slack” eide. Top price in the Southdown entries was secured by Hugh Burrell and Son, Feilding, Mr D. J. Holden, Hawke’s Bfiy, being the buyer of a ram born in 1932 at oogns. Mr J. Knight, Feilding, secured 50 guineas for a gam born in 1932, Mr lllstou, Huntervillo, being the purchaser. In all 178 sheep came into the salering, 40 of that number being stud Southdowns and the rest stud Romneys. The auctioneers were from the various firms comprising the Manawatu and West Coast Livestock Auctioneers’ Association. The following were the sales up till 1 p.m.
