RATE PAYMENTS
LARGE PROPORTION RECEIVED.
CITY COUNCIL’S REVENUE. With nearly 75 per cent, collected of the rates struck during the year ending March 31 next, considerable buoyancy has been given to the revenue" of- the Palmerston North City Council. Payments have been coming in very T steadily, but towards the week-end there was a rush to escape the statutory 10 per cent penalty, which is being imposed as from today on all rates outstanding. Rates struck during the year under review amounted to £73,710 5s lid, and when the books were closed last evening £55,120 6s 3d was in hand, leaving £18,591 19s 8d outstanding. Many more payments were received tC> From April to November last £36,752 14s lid had been collected, and an additional amount of £5032 2s 9d during December. Since the municipal offices reopened early in January, £12,835 8s 7d lias Been paid in. including the rush business transacted yesterday.
