LOWER OUTPUT.
OF DAIRY PRODUCE. THE LATEST RETURNS. Continued dry weather conditions have increased the rate of decline in the dairy output in New Zealand this season. Production for the current season to the end of December shows a fall of 4.3 per cent, on a butterfat basis, compared with the same period last season. The rate of decline to the end of November was 3.6 per cent.
Grading returns for export in the Dominion during the current season to the end of December compare with the previous season as follow:
Production probably reached its peak toward the end of November, and the returns will continue to decline as the season progresses. The effect of the dry spell is not fully revealed in the figures quoted, as there lias been no real break in the weather since the end of December. Unless heavy downpours of rain are experienced in the near future the season may be a shorter one, with a heavier fall in production during the remaining months. Separate figures for the various provinces are not available, but it is likely that the output in every district except North Auckland has suffered. In the North Auckland district rains have been timely and plentiful, and some factories have actually increased their output compared with last season.
