PROBABLY BAVARIAN.

ANOTHER “STRAD” VIOLIN.

Per Press Association

HAMILTON, Jan. 14.

Following what is said to be a genuine Stradivarius violin being discovered at Wellington, a farmer near Hamilton, Mr C. V. Carryer, states that he is in possession of a similar instrument. It bears a faded label with the same words as those on the Wellington violin, “Antonios Stradivarius, Cremonenitis, Faciebat,” and following that the words “Anno 1795” (or 1735) the third figure being very blurred. Mr Carryer’s grandfather bought the violin in a second-hand shop in Auckland many years ago. When the find was referred to a dealer in violins at Hamilton he said such finds had to be viewed carefully. He had come across many similar instruments bearing the same label. These were probably made in Bavaria.
