SHIPS IN DIFFICULTIES

BOUND FOR JAPAN-

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. . The steamers Ivomata and Kainianawa, which left port at o.oU Friday night for Japan, have made no progress. They anchored for the nign about- five miles from the heads and on Saturday afternon lesunied their voyage, the IComata towing the Kaimanawa. This morning the vessels were observed to return and anchor almost- in the same position. It is surmised thatthey are still experiencing towing difficulties, but as the sea is it is not clear why they should have returned.
