RAMS FROM “KILLEYMOON.” SALE AT SHOWGROUNDS. Buyers from many parts of the North Island and a number from the South Island attended the first annual sale at the Showgrounds, Palmerston North, yesterday, of stud Southdown rams from the celebrated flock of Messrs Ellis Bros., “Killeymoon,’ Bulls. The attendance was excellent, the seating accommodation at the covered sale-ring being fully taxed. The bidding was free, the buyers coming from a wide area. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Coy., Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and started well when Killeymoon 688 of 1933 was sold at 100 guineas to the Australian Mercantile Land and Finance Company, Melbourne. The ram won first prize in a pair of shearling rams at the Wairarapa and East Coast Show, while the sire and the dam had a strong record of show successes. The_ next offering was Killeymoon 45 of 1933, the bidding closing at 60gns, the buyer being Mr C. H. Williams, of Gisborne. The highest price paid in the first ten rams sold was 120gns., the animal being Killeymoon Model 202 of 1931, while tlio buyer was the Canterbury Seed Company, of Christchurch. This ram was the winner of 16 first prizes and ten championships, also six special prizes at leading chows in New Zealand, including the Royal Show. This was the top price of the sale. The average price of the 41 rams sold out of the 00 offered was £43 14s 6d, and the top 25 rams averaged 53gns. The sons of Luton Hoo Premier commanded attention from the buyers, Mr A. Grant, of Waimate, paying 80 guineas for one of his progeny, Killeymoon 509 of 1933, which was judged the prizewinning ram hogget at the last Manawatu and West Coast Show. Another prize-winning son of Luton Hoo Premier, Killeymoon 720 of 1933, was bought by Mr Claud Williams, of Gisborne, at 70 guineas, and Mr L. Henson, of Sanson, paid the same price for Killeymoon 549 of 1933, a prize-winning son of another notable breeding ram in Killeymoon 400 of 1929.

Ten of Luton Hoo Premier’s hoggets made the remarkable, average of 61J guineas. Mr T. A. Stephens, of Oamarn, bought two of his sons at 50 and 65 guineas apiece; Mr S. Hughes, of Maxwell, one at Go guineas; Mr F. Day, of Tamahere, Waikato, one at 50 guineas; Mr A. Grant, a second ram at 50 guineas. The Canterbury Seed Company was the largest buyer and in addition to the top-priced ram secured Killeymoon 52 of 1932, reserve champion to Model at many shows, for 60 guineas. Mr S. Rodgers, of Wright’s Bush, Southland, was also a buyer and secured an outstanding ram in Killeymoon 633 of 1932 at 621 guineas. This ram, sired by Pukenui 127, among many winning honours carried off the Royal reserve championship at the 1934 Royal Show.
