OPPOSITION TO GAMBLING. . Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. Concern at the incidence of various forms of gambling, including art unions, sweepstakes, and lotteries, was expressed at the annual Auckland Methodist Synod. It was decided to recommend that positive teaching on the ethical perils of gambling and art unions be given on an annual Sunday from the pulpits. Concern at the rapid spread of the gambling menace was expressed in one of - several resolutions and members of the Church were urged not to participate in art unions sweepstakes, and lotteries. It was also recommended that representations he made to the Government to resist the attempts of racing interests to secure double totalisator facilities, the legalising of telegraphic betting, and the publication ■ of dividends.
