PROFICIENCY RESULTS.
PUBLICATION OPPOSED. , Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. After consideration of a memorandum from the senior inspector (Mr A. McNeil), the Canterbury Education Board to-day decided that in future the results of the proficiency examintvtiohs not he published. “There’s some satisfaction doubtless to the successful candidates in the fact _ that/ all their friends will be informed of their success,” said the inspector, “but to the disappointment of those who failed is added the humiliation that their failure, by the implication of the omission of their names, is also published to their friends. This is especially the case in schools where there are a small number of candidates. Proficiency differs from all other public examinations in that it is practically compulsory. Is it: fair at this stage of their education to thus publicly classify all school children ?”
Notice has been given' to rescind the motion.
