CYCLE ROAD RACE.
EXCITING FINISHES
The ability of the winner to sprint over the last few yards was the deciding factor in the road race to Cheltenham and back, which was conducted by the Feilding Amateur Athletic and
Cycling Club, last evening. Interest was added to the contest by the inclusion ot three riders from Palmerston North from whom the home team narrowly secured the honours. R. Lambertcn, who was handicapped down to 3 minutes, just snatched victory oil the line, from Dewe off the same mark. They were lollowed by a bunch of four and a great battle for third place resulted, l'ifty yards from home, Rodgers (P.N.) took the lead, closely attended by Astin, Eade and Cocker, and a splendid effort saw Cocker secure third place whilst Eade just headed Rodgers for fourth place and fastest time, both the latter riding from scratch. Rodgers, who has done very little racing during the past twelve months, put up a remarkable performance, being a fraction of a second behind Eade, who has now recorded three successive fastest times. Astin, although. in sixth place, was within a length. Lutterworth (P.N.) on 4mins. arrived home suffering from slight cramp whilst Verry (3Rnin), experienced mechanical trouble. Detailed results are as follow:—R. Lamberton (3mins.) 1, Dewe (3mins.) 2, Cocker (jinm.) 3; time, 43mins. 33 sees.
