LAUNCH WRONGLY USED.

OWNER AWARDED DAMAGES. ECHO OF PALLISER BAY MISHAP Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. When the Wellington launch Kereru, now named Charlie’s Aunt, was driven ashore at Palliser Bay by a southerly gale last June, the owner, Charles Henry Allan Bustard, was not aboard and did not know she was being used on the trip. To-day, in the Magistrate’s Court, he claimed £B7 from Arthur Woolf, to whom the keys of tfie launch had been given and who was on board at the time of the mishap, alleging that the launch had been taken unlawfully and without authority from the boat harbour. Mr E. Page, S.M., awarded £7O and costs.

Plaintiff said that the keys were given in order to pump the boat out. There was no mention of the defendant’s using it. Defendant had some repairs done, but, later when plaintiff had the boat stripped, eighteen ribs were found to be broken and the engine and keelson were loose. Defendant said he was definitely instructed to use and look after the boat and keep it in running order. He considered himself justified in taking the day’s trip in it.
