POLLYANNA CLUB

ENJOYABLE CONCERT. For several years the annual concerts of the Polly anna Club, which is associated with the Cuba Street Methodist Church, have provided an enjoyable pot-pourri, of entertainment, and last evening the concert for this year was of a very enjoyable nature, embracing many novel aspects. Of generous proportions, it reflected considerable credit on the members of the club and the leader (Mrs H. L. Richards), who was responsible for the preparation and the general arrangement of the concert. There was a very good attendance and the audience showed marked approval of the musical and other numbers presented. There was distinctive variety and this sustained the interest splendidly. The costuming -was attractive, especially in an Old English dance scene with vocal interlude, also a Japanese number. An item deviating from the usual type was the presentation of a scene from “Hamlet’’ by Rev. H. L. Richards, which earned marked appreciation. The “glad” spirit of Pollyanna characterised the entire evening. The programme was as follows: Opening choruses; guitar duet, Misses L Perrin and G. Whitehead; sketch, “Washing Day”; vocal solo, Miss G. Young; dialogue, Miss L. Fraser; Old English minuet, club members (vocal solo, Miss N. Whittaker); choral number, “Night of Stars,” club members; vocal duet, Mrs Richards and Mrs Twigge; sketch, “The Photographer,” club members; scene from “Hamlet,” Rev. H. L. Richards; vocal duet, Misses N. Cowlishaw and 0. CJottam; scene, “Japanese Tea House,” club members; vocal finale, “A Perfect Day.” The accompaniste was Miss Murdoch, who rendered splendid service. Before the presentation of the final item, Miss C. Boyce handed a bouquet to Mrs Richards, and Miss G. Young presented a similar one to Mrs Murdoch in appreciation of their help to the club, Mrs Richards expressing thanks after both had been accorded musical honours.

A vote of thanks by acclamation was accorded Mr A. H. Cresswell for officiating as doorkeeper and Mr E. P. Wix for assistance.
