GARDEN PARTY

METHODIST LADIES’ GUILD. Held in the delightful surroundings of the garden at the home of Dr. E. C. Barnett and Mrs Barnett, yesterday afternoon, the garden party organised by the Ladies’ Guild of St. Paul’s Methodist Church was a happy little function, and was favoured with splendid weather.

Introduced by Rev. A. N. Seotter, the Mayoress (Mrs Mansford) expressed much pleasure in being present. In these difficult times, she said, the Church was of great importance, she said, and it was imperative that the foundations should _be kept intact. Those assisting in this great work could have the satisfaction of knowing they were helping a cause that had done more for mankind than any other. Mrs Mansford spoke in warm terms of the generosity of Dr and Mrs Barnett in being so ready at all times to throw their gardens open for any good cause. She then declared the garden party officially open. Organised by Mrs W. B. Cameron, the baby show attracted many entries, and the judges were very pleased with the flue apeparance of the babies. Awards were made as follow: —Under six months, Ann Smith and Donald Richards; under 12 months, Betty Andrews and George Hill; under 18 months, Shirley Maunder and Warren Hughes. Competition winners were as follow: Potato race, Mr F. Collis; golf, Mr T. R. Hodder; ail driving, Miss J. Cosslett; treasure hunt, Miss P. Barnett.
