MAIER TO PLAY IN SYDNEY
Enrique Maier, the Spanish tennis champion, is travelling to Sydney on the liner Orsova, which reached Fremantle the other day. He will play in the New South Wales championships and the Australian championships, in which he will partner Hopman in the doubles. , . Maier, who is a graduate in law of the University of Barcelona, is of striking personality and appearance. He said that during the past year his form had declined. He was now feeling better, and meeting the Australians again should help a great deal. Discussing the Davis Cup, Maier said tlie Australian team, after a year’s rest, would he terribly hard to beat, hut rest for them was essential. This applied particularly to Crawford. Maier’s departure from Spain was delayed through the revolution, which cut off communication.
