RETURN TO SCARLET.
ARMY’S CEREMONIAL UNIFORM. LONDON, Nov. 20. The Army next year will return to the pre-war scarlet uniforms on ceremonial occasions, says the Daily Express. The decision has arisen in consequence of the adoption of the new field uniform, a feature of which is uniform shorts. This has been called the deerstalker costume, but is universally approved under working conditions.
The question arose of an alternative for ceremonial parades. Tenders revealed that the difference in figures for khaki and scarlet was small. Among other factors favouring red coats was the incentive to recruiting. Numerous regiments, particularly Scottish units, in the past 10 years have vainly petitioned the War Office to be allowed to return to full dress.
