A GRADE. WOODVILLE WIN BY DEFAULT. In the A grade tennis competitions on Saturday, the Wodville team won from Pahiatua by default. MATCHES POSTPONED. Matches not played were the A grade fixture between Palmerston North and Feilding, and the B grade match Pahiatua v. Manawatu. St. Patrick’s B won by default from Terrace End. C GRADE. NORTHERN v. HOKOWHITU. The C grade match between Northern and Holcowhitu in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Club’s competitions on Saturday was won by Northern by 8 sets to 7, though Manawatu won 88 games to their 79. The first tennis competition match was played on the local courts on Saturday between Woodville and Bunnythorpe A, resulting in the local team being victorious. Afternoon tea was provided and the day being ideal, a most enjoyable match resulted. Details are as follow, Woodville players being named first. Men’s singles. —F. Graham beat L. Duthie, 10 —8; B. Ebbett beat H. Robson, 9—7; D. Ewing lost to L. Little, 4 —9; H. Jagor lost to J. Gore, 6 —9. Ladies’ singles.—Miss Mules lost to Miss E. Robson, 3—7; Miss Lynch lost to Mrs O’Sullivan, 6—B; Miss Sibbin lost to Mrs Williamson, 3 —7; Mrs Wright drew with Mrs O. Jackson 3 —3 (unfinished).
