SANDON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Nov. 19.

The Sandon branch of the Women’s Institute celebrated their ■ sixth birthday last week. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. lVlrs A. K. Drew extended a welcome to all. Bouquets wore presented to Mrs Paterson and Mrs ilc(Jorkindale. Apologies ioi; absence were received from Miss Grunt and Mcsdames Barnicoat, E. E. Short, W. G. Short, and J. Will. Mrs Paterson gave an address on the activities of the institute movement, which was much appreciated. Mrs McCorkindalo thanked members for the invitation to bo present and wished them many more happy birthdays. She conveyed greetings from Mesdames Barnicoat, E. E. Short and W. G. Short. At a suitable interval Mrs H. J. Eagan presented the branch with a banner and said she hoped it would be found useful. Mrs A. K. Drew returned thanks on behalf of members and said she was sure they would bo proud to own such a handsome banner. While afternoon tea was being served, Mrs Drew asked Mrs E. Henson to light the six candles on the birthday cake. Miss M. Francis, the youngest member of the Sandon branch, had the honour of blowing out the lights. Mrs Paterson cut the cake, which was then handed round. A competition (nursery rhymes) Was won by Mrs Fordyce. Items were rendered as follow: —Piano solo, Miss M. Francis; glees and chorus, Sandon members; playette, “The Impostor,” by Mesdames Bowater, Aiken, Adams and Sadler, and Misses R. Dwyer and M. Murphy; vocal duet, Mrs J. Tricker and Miss E. Henson. A garden party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. K. Drew on Saturday afternoon, being organised to provide funds for the British Foreign Bible Society and the Girl Guide Troop. A happy time was spent with games, competitions, etc. Rev. R. E. Fordyce entertained the children with various games and at intervals the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides gave some interesting items. At a suitable interval Rev. It. E. Fordyce thanked Mr and Mrs Drew for the used of their grounds and said he was sure all had spent a happy time. Mr Drew returned thanks.
