GARDEN PARTY.

ST. PAUL’S METHODIST LADIES’ GUILD. Set in the charming grounds of the home of Mrs E. C. Barnett, Eitzherbert Avenue, a garden party held this afternoon by the members of the St. Paul’s Methodist Church Ladies’ Guild offered much to occupy the attentions of those attending. Eruit trees of various kinds provided cool shade, while a wealth of flowers, despite the recent dry weather and following the heavy rain, gave the gardens a most attractive appearance, climbing roses, antirrhinums, campanulas, peonies, and poppies merging with a host of other varieties in a riot of colour. The function was declared open by Mrs A. E. Mansford, the Mayoress, at 2.30 p.m., it being held as the final effort of the Ladies’ Guild for the year in raising money for the trust funds of the Church. The stall-holders were as follow: Work stall, Mrs G. H. Bennett, Mrs J. Allan, Mrs H. J. Harris and assistants; sweets, Miss Cuiiniiighame and young ladies of the Bible class; cakes, Mrs L. Laurenson, Mrs G. Bennett, Mrs Maynard, Mrs A. N. Scotter and Miss Oxley; produce, Mesdames Pitt, Hastings, Baker and assistants ; ice cream and soft drinks, Miss Sliailer and Miss Whitehead; afternoon tea, Mesdames G. H. Bycroft, Hancox, Walker, Miller, Ellery, Forest and Tregurtlia assisted by young ladies; baby show, Mrs W. B. Cameron ; treasure hunt, Miss Ellery ; golf putting, Messrs G. H. Stiles, T. R. Hodder and E. G. Bennett; potato race, Miss G. Scotter; nail driving, Mr G. H. Bycroft. The baby show was’ judged by Mrs Mansford and Miss McGliie (matron of the Hospital). A feature of the stalls was one conducted by Mrs H. Whitehead, on which were for sale a large number of articles of fancy work, which had been made by the stall holder herself. Mrs Barnett as secretary, and Mrs Scotter as president, of the guild, did very good work in co-ordinating the efforts of all and seeing to the smooth running of the arrangements for the afternoon.
