The latest buying and-selling quotations recorded yesterday on the Wellington Stock Exchange wore as follow: —

EARNINGS OF RAILWAYS

RESULTS TO OCTOBER 13. EFFECT OF OUT RESTORATION. Complete details of railway revenue for the period ended October 13, concerning which a preliminary statemerit was made on November are contained in the abstract of the working account, which appears in the Gazette. There is a working loss of £38,139, compared with a profit of £27,606 for the corresponding period last year. This retrogression of £65,805 has been officially explained as resulting from the payment, during this period, of the whole of the o per cent, increase in salaries and wages retrospective to April 1. The gross receipts for the four weeks were £414,661, or £26,457 more than last yera. Expenses at £482,800 were £92,262 higher. The operating account for the Nortli Island shows a revenue of £234,104, and expenses amounting to £258,688. There was a loss of £24,584 compared with a profit of £17,398 last year The receipts of the South Island railways were £157,605, and the expenditure was £193,608. The result was a working loss of £36,003, compared with a loss of £13,933 last year. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £22,448, compared with £24,201 last year. The revenue was £52,952 and the expenditure £30,504. For the period from April 1 to October 13 net revenue was £296,435, compared with £306,457 last year. The oross revenue was £3,251,838, an increase of £202,235’. The expenditure was £2,955,403, compared with £2,743,147, an increase of £212,256.
