IMPOSITION OF FINE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 19. A fine of £2O was imposed on Harry Abram Smith, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with keeping a common gaming-house. A bil-liard-room in High Street occupied by Smith was raided by the police to-day and betting material was found. Counsel for Smith said the latter did not make a penny out of the transactions, but was only a “go-between” for bookmakers and their clients. Henry William Pullen and Thomas Victor ’Tuohy pleaded not guilty to similar charges and were remanded for eight days. Bail in £IOO and one surety of £IOO was allowed. 1 Pullen was said to have been operating in a building, 593 b Colombo Street, and Tuohy in the .bar of an hotel.
