CHURCH OF CHRIST
SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. The special services on Sunday at the Church of Christ opened under the presidency of Mr Hinriclisen, who conducted the usual Communion service. Air Grinstead was the speaker for the morning and took.as his subject the relation of the Church to the children. The Church and the Church alone, he said, were responsible for the education of the children, and it was not the slightest use for them to try to throw that responsibility on to the State school teachers. They rejoiced to think that thousands of them were Christian men and women and that as Christians they would do their work as Christians. The Church must and did realise that the Sunday school was the best of all reaping grounds The afternoon service was a particularly bright and happy one, over 170 scholars and teachers taking part. Campbell Street kept up its reputation for its singing, and under tlie baton of Air J. C. Parker gave a very fine interpretation of the hymns chosen for tbe day. The superintendent, Air Hinriclisen, gave an interesting chat to the young people on “Footprints,” which was greatly enjoyed, after which prize books were awarded the primary department, Airs T. Holden and Airs Stanley assisting. The awards were won in the Dominion examination. A special round of applause was given to Air J. C. Parker who had competed in the senior department and had won the highest award given by tbe Dominion examiners for his thesis on New Testament Christianity. Air Hinrichsen, in bringing tbe altenioon proceedings to a close, said that ns superintendent lie had had a very easy time this year as lie had a very able and faithful assistant superintendent. It was his wish, and with that wish the teachers were in full accord, that Air Herald should for the coming year be the superintendent. Despite the heavy rain there was a very fine attendance at the evening service. The evangelist led the meeting, speaking on the parable of the sower, ail address that young and old much appreciated. Anniversary livnins, with special items by the Bible class and an anthem by the choir, brought n happy day to a close. During the afternoon session, Alisses Stevens sang a duet, and Neil Scadden a solo. The accompanistes were Mrs R. Parker, at the piano, and Aliss Olson, at the organ.
