MARTON, Nov. 17.

In the unavoidable absence of the chairwoman (Mrs Sladden), Mrs Stevens presided at the monthly meeting of the Marton branch of the Plunket Society. A letter was read from Mrs Barron, of Foxton, saying that, owing to the illness of one of the cast, it was impossible to give the play that had been offered by her for the Marton Plunket funds, but that when her company had another ready they would make immediate arrangements to produce it in Marton for the funds. The secretary reported that Nurse Gorrie’s holiday leave was to begin about December 1 and that Nurse Hawkins would be relieving. Arrangements for the garden party to be held in February were fully discussed. Nurse Gorrie’s report for October was as follows: —ln Marton : 291 at the rooms including 11 at the Junction, 78 visits to homes. At Bulls (3 days) : 108 visitors, 8 visits to homes. At Turakina (one day): Six visitors, 5 visits paid. At Rata (two days) : 28 visitors, 5 visits paid. 1 hew case. Nurse Gorrie’s series of mothercraft talks is being given now to the Marton Company of Girl Guides. There was an excellent attendance at the concert held last evening to raise funds for the Boy Scouts. A fine programme had been arranged by Mr W. Ingle and the audience was fully appreciative of the high standard presented. The Loyal Marton Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., met last evening. One new member was admitted. The annual report and balance-sheet of the Wanganui Hospital Association was received. There had been an increase in membership, and expenses were very light. Nominations were received in connection with the election of officers for the ensuing term, which will be held on November 30. A sutv-committee was set up to make arrangements for tlie installation of officers, and the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Lodge, which will take plaeo on December 14.
