BRILLIANT SCENE

LORD MAYOR’S BALL

A BUSHLAND INTERIOR.

VISITORS TO CENTENARY.

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received November 6, 9.15 a.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 6.

One of the most brilliant events in the Centenary was the Lord Mayor’s Ball last night. The Town Hall was transformed into a bushland scene, with trees, ferns, and a running brook cascading over a boulder-strewn course. The illusion was complete, even to bush tracks winding among shad3 r glades. The Duke attended and expressed his admiration of the ingenuity of:the decorations. New Zealanders present included the Mayors Mr D. G. Sullivan, Rev. E. T. Cox, and Mr Bennett. Among the visitors who arrived by the Monowai were General Sir Alexander Godley and General Sir Andrew Russell. They were welcomed by war comrades and will take part in the military events of the Centenary.
