MANAWATU BOARD MEETS,

The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Boaru was held today, when Trustee P. G. Mildon presided. Others present were: Trustees J. Collis, A. W. Hamlin, W. E. Thomas, F. J. Russell, R. Tanner and D. Prouse. The chairman, reporting on the visit of inspection to Hamilton's Bend on October 15, stated that the protective •work had now been advanced over the jackeytown Road and was now in progress on Mr Parker’s property. Everything was progressing satisfactorily, he added. In reply to a question by Mr Tanner, the chairman remarked that it had not been decided, whether the bank would be carried through Mr Parker’s oat paddock. The ManawatuOroua River Board would determine the matter, hut he personally thought it would he possible to deviate along the fence line. He would keep in touch in Mr A. A. Mitchell, the chairman of the River Board. The Moutoa Drainage Board wrote in respect to the pollution of private drains leading into the board s drains, and asked what- action the Manawatu Board had taken, lhe clerk was instructed to notify the board, in reply of the powers under the Act governing, the pollution of streams, and whicii the board had the right to impose. The Kiwi Cricket Club made an application for a monetary grant to its funds. The writer explained that the club was composed of relief workers, whose slender earnings made it a difficult matter for them to adequately furnish themselves with the necessary gear. —Mr Russell moved that a grant of £2 2s be made. In seconding the .motion, Mr Tanner stated that it the board would not pay it he would. He added that the No. 5 scheme workers had saved the ratepayers a vast amount of money and no objection could be raised to the grant. Ihe motion was carried, without dissent, although some of the members refrained from voting.
