NURSING GUILD.

ANNUAL MEETING HELD.

The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Nursing Guild was held yesterday afternoon. Those present were Mr J. A. Nash, M.P. (chairman) and Mesdames Spooner, E. Bett, Dudfield and H. Coles, Miss Cunninghame and Mrs M. Aitchison (secretary) and Sister' Spensley. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mesdames S. V. Trask, T, Hewitt, L. Bale, W. L. Fitzherbert and Z. Gill.

The report of the president and secretary were as follows: “The yast year has been an exceptionally heavy one, Sister Spensley having been kept very busy. The number of treatments given was 3398; social welfare and supervision, 1213; collections of food, clothing, etc., 509; visits to office by patients, 619; new patients, 423; .so that it will be noted that this has been one of our heaviest years. Seven deaths from different causes occurred daring the yea.r. Gifts of clothing which was urgently needed were made by the several women’s institutes, the AVomen’s Federation of the Congregational Church and by many kind and interested friends. Gifts of food, fruit, vegetables, etc., were also donated by many sympathisers of the work. The Business Girls’ Club has also rendered splendid help. AVe thank the many anonymous donors for their gifts and kind, a.nd our special thanks also are due to all those including the nurses and girls from the Technical School who have assisted in the street collections. The City Council has generously helped our guild as usual, and we thank all friends’who have contributed to the funds. AA T e are pleased to report that very cordial relations exist between the Hospital Board and the guild, and \fe appreciate the assistance given by the managing secretary (Air Phillipps), welfare officer (Air AVatson) and the matron (Aliss AlcGhie). AA ; c much appreciate the honorary help given to the guild by the medical profession, also the committee of the guild for its cooperation during the year.” In moving the adoption of the report the chairman said that the year had been commenced with a credit balance i of £2l 15s lOd. The total income had j been £167 7s 7d, and there had been loft a credit balance of 6s 3d. Build-! ings, property and furniture brought | the total assets up to £555 Is. The motion for the adoption of the report was seconded by Airs Bett and carried.

The officers were re-elected on the motion of Airs Coles as follow: Chairman, Air Nash; secretary. Airs Aitchison ; treasurer, Aliss Cunninghame. A r otes of thanks were passed to the auditor (Air AA r . C. Harrington), the chairman and the Press. MONTHLY AIEETING.

Prior to the annual meeting the monthly meeting of the guild wars held, Air Nash presiding. _ ... Miss Nairn, who is now residing in Oamaru, forwarded her resignation as a member of the committee, also a donation to the guild. The resignation wars accepted with regret, it being decided to place on record the committee’s appreciation of her many years of service. It was advised that Aliss AI. Aiken was to replace Aliss Nairn on the committee.

It was decided to allow the nurse a small amount each month which she could spend on her patients as she saw fit. , The District Nurse (Sister Spensley) reported that in tbs month there had been 227 treatments given, 49 visits of social welfare and supervision made, 37 collections of clothing, a.nd 48 visits to the office. Twenty-five new patients had been added and there had been one death. Donations of clothing had been received from Mrs L. Gardner, Mrs . B. Tenneiit and the Kalconibe AA’omcn s Institute, while 10s 9d had been rev ceived from All* J. R- Mood. Airs Aitchison reported that the work done by fb e nurses from the Hospital oil the occasion of the annual street collection had been excellent, while general appreciation was expressed of the nurses activities. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to the nurses. Mrs C. N. Eabone was elected a new member of the committee.
