Tlie friends of Sister Cooper, of the Northcote Hospital, will be pleased to learn that her condition is much improved after a recent operation.
Miss Linda B alien, of Palmerston North, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs J. Galvin, at liarnua.
Dr. Ellen Heycock, who was formerly attached to the. Palmerston North Hospital stuff, London on October 23 on her return to New Zealand.
Mrs L. A. Couch, formerly of Palmerston North, is spending a few days in Wanganui as the guest of her mother, Mrs J. F. Redpath, and will later leave to take up her new home in New Plymouth. The engagement is announced in an Auckland exchange of Jean Thornton, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. W. Colgan, Auckland, to Claude Harris, eldest son of Major and Mrs J. T. Palmerston North.
At the annual meeting of the District Nursing Guild, yesterday, the chairman, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., paid a tribute to the splendid work of the secretary (Mrs M. Aitchison) and the treasurer (Miss M. Cunninghame). A motion of appreciation of their activities was carried by acclamation. Speaking as chairman at the annual meeting yesterday of the District Nursing Guild, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., said ho was voicing the opinions of all when he spoke in appreciation of the district nurse,'Sister K. Spensley. He said the annual report showed that 3398 treatments had been given, 1.213 social welfare visits and visits of supervision had been made, while 509 collections of food and clothing had been made as well. The district nurse held a busy position which could not leave her much leisure. Mr Nash expressed the hope that Sister Spensley would long continue such useful activities and the meeting passed a motion of appreciation of her services. A large number of notable visitors to New Zealand, including several members of the English nobility, will arrive at AVellington by the R.angitane on November 21. The Dowager Lady Swaythling, Lady Clara Marchamley, Hon. Alice Whiteley, Hon. Arthur Howard, and Hon. Miles G. W. Pliillimore are on their way to Australia to attend the Melbourne Centenary celebrations. Among the travellers who intend to stay for a time in New Zealand are Sir Charles Campbell and Lady Campbell, Lieutenant-General Sir William Marshall and Lady Marshall, and Vice-Admiral G. W. McO. Campbell and Mrs Campbell.
