OROUA DOWNS WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

The monthly meeting of the Oroua Downs Women’s Institute was held recently. Mrs Wilson Scott presided over a very large attendance. Mrs A. Short gave a demonstration of upholstery and Mrs Barnicoat a talk on home nursing. Both proved very interesting and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded them. In the cushion competition, the result was: (Senior) Mrs Oliver 1, Mrs Albury 2. Misses M. Scott and M. Christensen tied for places in the juniors. In a musical game, Mrs Albury proved the winner. Mesdames Thompson, Hunter, Proctor, and Misses Christensen (2) and Cotton were the hostesses and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.

A highly successful euchre and dance was held recently under the auspices of the Women’s Institute and the function (vas well attended. In the euchre, Mrs Newcombe was first, Mrs J. Veale second, and Mrs C. Conlan got the consolation prize; men, Mr J. Conlon 1, Mr C. Davey 2, Mr E. Christensen consolation. Mrs Newcombe was also the winner of the iced cake. Music for the evening was supplied by Mr and Mrs H. Oliver, Mrs Cullen and Mr and Mrs Hart and Mrs Stratford, and supper was served by the ladies. The funds will be devoted towards purchasing a couch for the school.
