SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.
An afternoon gathering, which was much enjoyed, was given by Mrs 11. Bennett, of Margaret Street, 'at her residence last Thursday. Progressive bridge was played, the winner being Mrs J. Coupe and the consolation prize going lo Mrs E. Glendinning. Those present were Mesdames S. J. Parkes, Hart, Free, E. Cumberworth, L. G. Sinclair, W. Coutts, McMurray, 0. Cater, Denize, E. Glendinning, T. Mitchell, B. Simpson, W. Cook, W. Nichols, E. McDonald, Taylor, E. Simpson, J. Coupe, Colquhuon and Misses Oakley, N. Nash, and J. Litchfield. A cake for competition, donated by Mrs Free, was won by Mrs Cumberworth. At the conclusion of the afternoon Mrs W. Nichols, on behalf of Miss Oakley and the bridge committee, thanked Mrs Bennett for her kindness in giving the afternoon, the proceeds of which will substantially assist Miss Oakley’s candidature in the queen carnival.
