USE OF VENOM.
MEDICAL RESEARCH
LONDON, Nov. 1
Important results have been achieved by Dr AlacFarlane, pathologist at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, and Dr Barnett, curator of the reptile house at London Zoo, in the use of snake venom to stop bleeding. An Indian snake known as Russell’s Viper yielded the most striking results. Its venom diluted to one part in 100,000 caused blood coagulation in one minute. The venom has been used effectively with haemophilia patients after dental extractions, also in general surgery.
