DROWNED IN RIVER.
MAORI GIRL’S DEATH.
Per Press Association
WHAKATANE, Nov. 3. Whilst playing on the river hank near the Ruatoki Native School with other Maori children during the lunch hour yesterday, a Native girl, ICa.ri Edwards, went for a paddle and got out of her depth and was drowned. The other children did not realise the child was in danger until it was too late to render assistance and then ran to the pa for help. Efforts by the schoolmaster (Mr Hauesler) to render artificial respiration were unavailing.
