MARTON. N.ov. 2. The annual meeting of the Rangitikei Gill Guide Association was field this week. Mrs Deighton presided. The report stated, inter alia:—“Under the very capable leadership of the captain, Miss Morrison, and her two lieutenants, Miss Oliver and Miss Wadman, the Ist Marton Company has made excellent progress. Many new guides have joiued, and, including the recruits, the company now numbers 30, an increase of 100 per cent. Much good work has boen done for proficiency badges and the senior guides are attending child nurse lectures given by Miss Gorrie, the Plunket nurse, to whom thanks are due. A guide company and Brownie Pack were started at Pakihikura, but unfortunately they have had to be disbanded as two families left the district and the number of girls left was not enough to form either company or pack. However, at Sanson a strong Guide company has started with Miss Macfarlane as captain and Miss Kilpatrick her lieutenant.” The local boxers, J. Wilson, Stafford and Farrow, visited Dannevirke on Monday night. Wilson defeated McKay on a technical knock-out in the fifth round after a thrilling fight. Although Stafford and Farrow lost the decisions they made creditable displays. Beautiful weather favoured the local bowlers on Wednesday afternoon and the green, which was well patronised, was in perfect order considering the wet weather experienced for the past two days. An interesting game was played for the Atkinson Roosters, the diallengers (Thomson and Porteous) seating the holders (Healy and Morrison) by one point on the last head. The game for the Marr Buckles resulted in an easy win for the holders Thoma.s, J. Miles, Purnell and Rayner), who scored 24 against their opponents’ 11. The Loyal Marton Lodge, M.U., .0.0. F., met last evening. It was reported that there are now only three nembers on the sick list. After formal msiness was disposed of tile N.G., Bro. L Miscall, called for nominations f.or he various officers for the ensuing erm. A number were received, and a urther call will be made next lodge light.
