INJURY TO BOY.

EXPLOSION OF DETONATOR. WHANGAREI, Nov. 2. A serious accident occurred at Victoria Valley when the ten-year-old son of Mr E. Panther, got possession of a detonator and caused it to explode, with a cracker. The boy’s left hand was seriously injured, half the thumb, tho whole of the first finger, and part of the second finger being blown off. It is stated that a Maori boy secured a number of detonators, which he distributed amongst Victoria Valley schoolboys. One boy, a son of Mrs Norman Kitchen, had one given to him, and placed it in the fuel box, whence it was shovelled into the stove. There was a sharp explosion and the front of the stove was blown out. Just before the explosion a baby had been removed from in front of the stove. Another boy, a son of Mr Beazley, showed a detonator to his uncle, who immediately took it from him. The matter has been reported to the police.
