NATIONAL PARKS.
DEVELOPMENT HINDERED. WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. The hope that when financial conditions permit a reasonable State allocation will he made annually for national parks purposes is expressed in tli© annual report on public domains and national parks, tabled in the House of Representatives. The report of the Tongariro National Park Board states that, owing to jack of finance, tlie board had not been able to allocate any funds during the year for carrying out further works. Many of the hillside tracks had been detrimentally affected by adverse weather conditions, and as a.consequence were becoming difficult to follow. With the great increase' in the number of visitors to the park, further work on existing tracks and tlie opening of new routes was important. Under the direction of the manager at the Chateau (Mr R. Cobbe) the poling of tracks from the Mangatepopo prison camp to the Mangatepopo hut, tlience to the Tama lakes, the Wailiolionu hut and back to the Chateau, a total distance of about 24 miles, had been effected by tho Tourist Department. Each half mile was shown on a sign p-ost,.. and where Hampers might go astray additional posts and signs had been erected between these halfmile points.
